IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NATIONAL PARK (as of May 23, 2023)

The 2023 winter storms have caused considerable damage in Sequoia Kings Canyon, but the entrance to Kings Canyon at Grant Grove (Big Stump) is now open. Currently, the only place in the Parks to see Giant Sequoias is in Grant Grove.

  • Because Highway 245, which connects the cabin to Highway 180, is closed, alternate routes to and from Highway 180 are necessary. Travel time from the cabin to the Park entrance is now longer, about 45 minutes. Use this map for directions. Highway 245 may re-open as soon as Memorial Weekend.

  • Access to Giant Forest via Generals Highway from the northern (Big Stump) entrance is scheduled for around June 2-9, 2023.

  • The foothills region, accessed from the south entrance, is now open. You can get there from the cabin via Dry Creek Drive, a spectacular road through lush green hills, Dry Creek (now rushing with water), and vast fields of wildflowers and grasslands. Although Generals Highway is open for 6 miles from the entrance station, at this time, no giant sequoias are accessible. Estimated re-opening for Generals Highway from the foothills entrance to Giant Forest / General Sherman is July 1, 2023.

  • Cedar Grove and the heart of Kings Canyon, Mineral King, and Crystal Cave will be closed for the entire summer season.

  • See all the details and updates at https://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.
